The metallurgical department is specialized and varied in the scope of testing and evaluations performed. Determining material properties and finding solutions for unique loading and measuring techniques is the main work performed in the department.
Typical projects include metallurgy and associated testing, welding, electronic instrumentation and data acquisition, failure investigations, building materials QC/QA testing, corrosion investigations and consulting, load testing of structures and components, cyclic testing of shear walls and panel systems and specialty testing. The department is headed by Jay Dorst, a registered metallurgical engineer in California.
