Since the Consulting Laboratory shares space with Consolidated Engineering's Concrete Laboratory, Soils Laboratory and Nondestructive Testing Department. Personnel and equipment resources from these entities are available for use if required for projects. Major equipment includes:
- 500,000 lb., 200,000 lb., and 60,000 lb. and 5,000 lb. universal testing machines
- 100% and 50% humidity rooms with programmable temperature
Approval testing of post-installed concrete anchors is large part of the work performed in the Laboratory. Nearly all anchor manufacturers have been and continue to be our clients. The Laboratory recently became approved to perform testing in cracked concrete for qualification of anchors for strength design per ACI 318 Appendix D.
- Seismic tension test in a cracked concrete test member
- Constant load test on anchor in a moving crack
- Tension test on 2” o.d. anchor in a cracked test member
In conjunction with our anchor testing capabilities, we are recognized to provide quality control inspections of anchor manufacturing facilities that are required by ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES). These services are provided world-wide. Services for other types of products are also possible.
The Testing Laboratory performs speciality testing of a wide variety of construction materials and products. Capabilities include:
- Cyclic and static load testing and displacement measurement - Equipment includes hydraulic rams, electronic load cells, LVDT displacement measuring devices and a computer controlled 22,000 pound capacity hydraulic testing apparatus capable of applying cyclic loading. All electronic devices are compatible with our computer data acquisition systems for real-time continuous recording of results.
- Environmental temperature testing using our Thermotron hot/cold test chamber and our custom-designed heat chamber
- Custom fixturing can be designed and fabricated to meet the needs of a client's unique or unusual testing requirements
